A Committee of the Assembly of Sea Grant Extension Program Leaders
Hi -
All are probably aware of the new funds -- $30K/year -- being offered by the national SG office for climate adaptation work with coastal communities. Many perhaps are also aware of the national SG climate survey that is currently being fielded by a number of state programs (supported in part by funds from the hazard resilient coastal communities focus team). This survey is an appropriate tool to learn about the views, current behaviors and information needs and interests of the coastal decision makers that states are usually trying to assist. States can customize the survey to meet their needs.
As the PI on the project, I've heard from some states that lack of funds has been a barrier to their participation in the survey. Usually the resources needed are to develop the list of people who will be invited to take the survey locally, to obtain local IRB approval, and to administer the survey . . . pretty much everything else is already done and ready for state participants.
So, perhaps $2,000-3,000 might be all that's needed to conduct the survey in your state . . . and since the 2 years of new funding is 20 times that amount, if you're interested in obtaining that essential information about your coastal stakeholders, money should not now be a barrier. . . .
By collaborating as a network on this survey we can show the strength of the network, develop a unique snapshot of national coastal views on climate change, and help our own programming.
Those who would like to know more about the survey can contact me directly . . . .
Thanks for your interest.
