I agree. The newtier "communicator" seems like a good solution but I have not had a chance to play around with it yet-have you? I'd like to have something on my desktop that could just "push" me the info. I am most interested in. I guess I get distracted easily when the updates are also coming through to my Inbox.

Hi Chris!
Thanks for getting the workshop information up on the Ning site. Yeah! I guess we are in business now. I sent a test registration and the database captured my faux registration and I also saw that we had another person that already signed up so it looks like it is working ok. I was wondering as to the best way to promote the workshop...should we place an announcement on the main home page and/or should we alert the leads in the Sea Grant network to have them help us disseminate this opportunity through their listservs? Thanks, Chris. Have a good day.

Hi Chris,
I haven't heard back from Rochelle yet, but I wanted to see if at least the two of us could chat on Friday at 2:00 EST. I will check again with Rochelle and see if she can do this day/time and if not, I can meet up with her later. Will this work for you?

Hi Chris -- no problem! I didn't realize it was that much of a time difference! Rochelle cannot do it in the afternoon on either of the days. Could you do either the 25th in the afternoon (say around 2:00) or the 28th around 2:00? If you can, I'll check with Rochelle.

Impacts of Sea-Level Rise on the California Coast

The Pacific Institute and the State of California just put out a report, both full report and executive summary, on the impacts of sea-level rise on the California coastline. They used a projected sea-level increase of 1 - 1.4 m by 2100 and evaluated the impacts to their environment, economy, and infrastructure.

Links to the report are posted under Climate Change at the Adaptation sub-tab.

Stone Age technological and cultural innovation accelerated by climate change

Technological innovation during the Stone Age occurred in fits and starts and was climate-driven, according to new research. Abrupt changes in rainfall in South Africa 40,000 to 80,000 years ago triggered the development of technologies for finding refuge and the behavior of modern humans.

Predators affect the carbon cycle, study shows

A new study shows that the predator-prey relationship can affect the flow of carbon through an ecosystem. This previously unmeasured influence on the environment may offer a new way of looking at biodiversity management and carbon storage for climate change.

Underwater springs reveal how coral reefs respond to ocean acidification

Ocean acidification due to rising carbon dioxide levels will reduce the density of coral skeletons, making coral reefs more vulnerable to disruption and erosion, according to a new study of corals growing where submarine springs naturally lower the pH of seawater. The study is the first to show that corals are not able to fully acclimate to low pH conditions in nature.
